We took a drive up the Sandia's
After a snow storm.
Usually, Saturdays are a challenge for me. I don't have anything planned, and I don't know what state of mine Sweetie is going to be in. They are free flowing affairs that will do what they want to do. I don't dare take her with me to the driving range so I can get in some practice because I'm afraid that she will remember and when I go to drop her off when I go to play, she will remember the driving range and think she can go with me. Don't want to barrow trouble from tomorrow.
As her Caregiver, it racks the brain as to keep her occupied. There are days when I'd just love to sit and watch TV all day. We can't. Her racked mind can only sit for so long before she gets bored and we have to move, do something.
Yesterday, the weather co-operated with me. It was one of the first nice pre-spring day that we've had this year. Took advantage to do some yard work. Got the leaf blower and mulcher out, and proceeded to clean up leaves in the flower beds and off the yard. I gave Sweetie a broom and had her sweep leaves from one place to another, it didn't matter where, it just gave her something to do. Then I told her what a great job she was doing and what a great help she was. It worked well. We spent a couple of hours clean up the leaves, and the yard is looking good. We still have quite a bit of work to do, which will get done as the weather improves.
The sundowner's report is that we had very little last night. Sometimes it is so confusing that we have sundowners on some nights that are so deep and dark that I think she will never find her way back. Then there are evenings like last night, that if it wasn't for her inability to express herself, you would never know she had dementia. What an Easter Egg evening it was. We even stayed up to 8:30pm, and that is a rarity.
I can see that my Driver is up and has His palette out and is coloring the dawn as only He can do. I know He'll be heading for our ride, and getting ready to move on down the road. I just don't know how He does it, but our ride is always shinning, so it will be easy to spot us. Driving down the road to Dementia Town, keeping our Shinny Side Up. I've got my Easter Egg basket out, knowing that I'll be looking for more beautiful Easter Eggs today. Remember, it is up to you to keep your Shinny Side Up. If you need help, you can barrow my Driver, He 's always available.
