Simple things that life offers.
I've used this picture before, but it shows me what is special about the simple things in life. The trip to the zoo, where this picture was taken, eating ice cream, which cannot be done now, and just enjoying life. Each day, the simple things that seem to go away, things that I never thought in a million years would disappear, have.
Yet, even with Dementia, life can be good, and to be able to say that, it is good, too. We have worked hard to be where we are today, finically, home, car, debt, and where does that leave us? It leaves me with less things to worry about, a blessing. I don't have to worry about making it from the first of the month to the end of the month. I can enjoy what pleasures we do have left without wondering if tomorrow will bring with it a calamity. I just have to stop feeling sorry for myself, and keep doing what is right.
I'd like to tell you about two things that were real blessings. I decided to buy Sweetie some new jeans. When this retirement/caretaking adventure started, she was wearing size 12 skinny jeans. Yesterday, I bought her two pair of skinny jeans, size 8. She is loosing weight, and that concerns me, but again there isn't anything I can do about that. The blessing came when she didn't fight me on getting the new jeans.
Second, got a call from Share your Care, the people that help with daycare for Sweetie, and in the conversation, I was asked about my support group. They are in contact with other couples and there is a man that is looking for help. I told them to give him my phone number and I'd talk with him. This is a special Easter Egg, for if I wasn't going though this, I wouldn't be there to help someone else go through it together.
Yes, I had a good day, and my Driver is smiling. He knows that on the Road to Dementia Town, even the detours have value. As He holds me up, I too can help another. Valuable lessons I've learned riding with my Driver, as we motor down the Road, with our Shiny Side Up. C'mon, you can join me. Get your motor running, Shiny Side Up, and here we go for another day of adventure, on the Road to Dementia Town. See Ya, Love Ya, and God Bless.
