Still my beautiful wife
Always talking about the ups and downs with my Sweetie. How they come and go. How I am perplexed about the way they affect her at any moment.
From the time she wakes up, to the time we go to bed, there are times when it is like being in a pool of softly flowing water, enjoying the sunlight, the sound of the babbling brook, and rest. Then there are the times when we are swept away, down the rapids of life. Moving swiftly down the river, watching out for rocks, below the surface, or being pushed into the boulders on the shore. Never knowing what to expect, I just tighten the straps on my life preserver and hang on.
As of now, I'm in the cool of the morning, in that gentle pool outside of the current that is going to suck me into it, and I'll be off on another wild ride on the river call Dementia.
Monday
Monday was challenge. I had the garage door repairman come over to see what could be done with our broken garage door. He said he could repair it, didn't need to be replace. That was good news for me to hear.
The problem was that he entered Sweetie's safe place, and as soon as she saw him, she headed for her safe zone, the bed. Knowing that is where she wants and needs to be, I just let her go there.
As he worked on the door, I sat about doing the clean up after breakfast, and then to the task of watching TV. Boring, I know.
When he was finished, it still gave us time to head out to the course.
What I didn't count on, was that it was warmer than when we normally get out. Everything was going just fine, until the last two holes. Sweetie started wondering away from me. I quickly got her back and by the time we were off the course, she was semi conscious. I got her home as quickly as I could.
The morning turned out to be just too much for her. Let her sleep, re-charge and re-set herself. When she did get up, and seem like she was her old self again, we went out for our daily walk about. Again, she did well.
As the day went on, she seemed to be getting centered again which made for a good evening.
Sunrise to sunset, the days go on. Driver may start out with the sun in our faces and end in the shadow of the evening. It doesn't matter, for we know, He is behind the wheel, leading the way, as we travel the Road to Dementia Town, Keeping our Shiny Side Up. C'ya, Luv ya, and God Bless.
